More About the song ‘Silent Night’

“Silent Night” is a timeless Christmas carol, first composed in 1818 in the Austrian village of Oberndorf. The melody was created by Franz Xaver Gruber, and the original German lyrics, “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,” were written by Joseph Mohr, a priest at the local church.
Originally performed with guitar accompaniment due to a broken organ, its gentle melody and message of peace have since made it a worldwide favorite. The English version, translated by John Freeman Young in 1859, is widely sung today.
Over the years, “Silent Night” has been recorded by numerous modern artists, adding to its enduring legacy. Bing Crosby’s version is one of the best-selling singles of all time, while Mariah Carey, Elvis Presley, and Kelly Clarkson have also released popular renditions. Each artist brings their unique style to this classic, ensuring it remains a cherished song for every holiday season.
