The lead singer and songwriter of Irish punk-folk band ‘The Pogues’, Shane Macgowan has died aged 65.
The legendary musician passed away on Thursday after being diagnosed with viral encephalitis last year.
The Pogues frontman was known for fusing traditional Irish music with rock’n’roll and is widely credited with popularising the "Celtic Punk" genre.
Many will remember him as the writer of Christmas classic 'Fairytale of New York'.
His wife Victoria Mary Clarke has released a statement on social media: “Shane will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life … I am blessed beyond words to have met him and to have loved him and to have been so endlessly and unconditionally loved by him.”
