In his adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Nickel Boys,” director RaMell Ross uses a first-person perspective throughout to force the audience into the position of the protagonists. In this scene, Hattie (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor), unable to see her grandson Elwood housed in a Florida reform school, approaches Turner (voice of Brandon Wilson) for help. “Nickel Boys,” released by Orion Pictures/Amazon MGM Studios, is nominated for 2 Academy Awards, including best picture.
