In Coralie Fargeat’s body horror film, “The Substance,” best actress Oscar nominee Demi Moore plays Elisabeth, an aging Hollywood actress haunted by a culture that prizes youth. In this early scene, following a devastating career downturn and a car accident, Elisabeth breaks down under the watch of an ER doctor (Tom Morton), but then finds herself the focus of a sinister male nurse (Robin Greer). Released by Mubi, “The Substance” is nominated for 5 Academy Awards, including best picture, best director, and best original screenplay.
