I wrote this song in the summer of 2009, shortly after the birth of my wife and I’s first daughter
Just before the birth I had lost my job and we decided that rather than find a new job and sort out child care, I would stay at home with the baby for the first year.
This of course meant that my wife would return to her work as a teacher after summer break. It was difficult for my wife to leave her newborn at home while she went off to work to support our family and I felt a tremendous amount of guilt given the situation.
One night I wrote this song as a promissory note to make it all up to my wife and as a proxy for the repayment I used the promise of a lavish Italian vacation.
Of course the guilt and idea of needing to repay my wife for her many sacrifices is all self-fabricated.
My wife has never acted in any way other than grateful, joyful and loving to not only me but our three children.
Ironically her complete selflessness just makes me feel as if I owe her even more...
