When I have to play or record a dance rhythm, I am often surrounded by sequences of hihats or percussions with a frequency very close to that of a shaker or hihat. So I mount a very small pair of cymbals to support my right hand and make the groove more fluid, this way the producer of the song has fewer problems during the editing phase. Furthermore, in a small set dedicated to funk or dance I prefer to have a front snare drum rather than a tom. A snare drum can in fact also be a high-note drum without the snare.
