If you have tried to learn any guitar part in the past that is based on a scale then you already have the basic playing skills in place to work on this lessons box shapes for riffs & licks. These shapes are simple, and they use excellent note choices.
From beginner to advanced, it doesn’t matter what level of guitar player that you are right now, because with the box shapes you’ll learn about scale options that will help you build better riffs & licks and you’ll do it all much more quickly compared to 7-tone scales.
The key to learning and using these box shapes lies in that this shape trades in scale length for note-choice chemistry. You won’t have to study for hours on memorizing those long in position scale shapes (that cover more notes than you actually need), to get great results. These box shapes are simple!
To get started, select a key and a single set of notes from a box shape. Stay within a one octave range and practice creating patterns that you can use for solos and melody lines. Beginners should spend 10 minutes on melodic practice split between riffs and licks. Intermediate players can do 30 min. practice sessions, with advanced players going for around one hour.
