Emilia Giuliani was an Italian guitarist and composer. She was the daughter and pupil of the guitarist and composer Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829), sister of Michele Giuliani (1801-1867), guitarist, composer and singing teacher at the Paris Conservatory, and nephew of Nicolas Giuliani (att. 1847), maestro of a chapel in St. Petersburg, annexed to the service of the Empress of Russia. She was married to the composer Luigi Guglielmi. Emilia Giuliani began to pass her works as early as 1834, at the age of 21 (Op. 1, Five variations on a theme by Bellini). All of Emilia Giuliani's known compositions are for guitar. Her compositions were published in Milan by Giovanni Ricordi, in Vienna by Artaria and by Josef Weinberger for the second edition of the Preludes published after her death. She was one of the few famous female composers of the 19th century, with Clara Schumann (1819-1896), Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847) and Louise Farrenc (1804-1875).
