Christina Rosetti wrote Love Came Down At Christmas on 29 December 1885. Her poem took inspiration from the biblical text 1 John 4:7-11, which mentions 'love' in some form 11 times.
In Rosetti's own poem of just three short stanzas, 'love' is mentioned 12 times when the word 'lovely' is also included in the count.
Rosetti's beautiful words, which were set to music and made a hymn plays in the background of this video. Love Came Down At Christmas was included in the Oxford Hymn book in 1908.
