No delays. Say howdy to the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor. Given you’re likely curiosity, I’m gonna shut up for a beat so we can all just examine how the latest Raptor looks.
Alright, we’ve had a chance to stare at Raptor generation 3. Here are the essential details. Item 1: The Raptor is built atop the new F-150 platform solely in the SuperCrew body style. To that stronger foundation Ford has affixed an all-new 5-link rear suspension featuring a Panhard rod and 24-inch coil springs. That’s right, coils! The new setup improves suspension precision and affords increased wheel travel equaling 14 inches in front and 15 inches in the rear.
Drop each figure by about an inch if you get the optional 37-inch tires. Yeah, you can now get 37-inchers if the standard BFGoodrich K02 35s don’t seem meaty enough for you. Mark my word, we’ve entered a new era of tire size one-upmanship. The 37s enable increase ground clearance, approach and departure angles, plus they look properly badass. But if you prefer a Raptor that’s airborne, the 35-inch tires are the play.
On a related note, the suspension is managed by FOX Live Valve internal bypass shocks that are electronically controlled, adjusting their damping rates 500 times per second. With 3.1-inch diameter shock bodies, these are the biggest dampers ever fitted to a Raptor, which should better manage heat during vigorous off-road jaunts. Feel free to use a cooler word than “jaunt” for your off-road adventures.
As for power, Ford has not revealed horsepower and torque specs just yet. But we do know that the engine is Ford’s 3rd-generation 3.5-liter, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. Everyone hoping for a brawny V8…good news…a Raptor R rumored to be powered by a supercharged V8 will arrive in 2022. I don’t care what the commenters say, I still love you, TRX!
From the engine, torque is routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission and 2-speed transfer case to a standard electronic-locking rear differential and an optional Torsion limited front differential. Other functional notes, the Raptor’s tow rating has increased to 8,200 pounds and the exhaust is an equal length unit with active valves to enhance its auditory delights during sassy romps through the desert. Suddenly the “jaunt” doesn’t seem so bad, huh?
In terms of technology, the 2021 Raptor employs a new 12-inch digital gauge cluster, a new 12-inch infotainment screen running Sync 4, an optional 360-degree camera system for when you and your spotter are on the outs, and a terrain management system with 7 drive modes that adjust damping, transmission, steering, and stability control behavior.
Oh, and I guess we should discuss the interior which features well bolstered seats that can be upgraded to optional Recaro buckets, standard aluminum and optional carbon fiber trim, a new steering wheel adorned with aluminum paddle shifters and that signature Raptor centering mark.
As you might know, KBB has a rich history with the Raptor. In fact our 2 most popular videos of all time featured the first Raptor and then the 2nd Raptor. Just like you, we cannot wait to get another Raptor adventure under out belt. Raptor arrives in dealers in the summer of 2021.
