Turnaround Arts, a Kennedy Center Education program, will bring together over 100 elementary and middle school students from around the country for the 2024 Turnaround Arts Student Showcase! This next generation of artists and leaders will perform acts created and rehearsed in their hometowns, culminating in a dynamic variety show filled with singing, dancing, original spoken word, and more.
The 2024 Turnaround Arts Student Showcase is a celebration of the students’ achievements in the Turnaround Arts program, and an opportunity for them to highlight their artistic voices for each other and the nation. For many of the selected students, this experience will be marked by many firsts: their first time visiting Washington, D.C., their first time meeting students from other states, and their first time performing in a large theater. It will be an exciting and unforgettable experience for all involved!
About Turnaround Arts
Turnaround Arts is a national program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. We believe the arts are a civil right for all students and that the arts can strengthen school transformation efforts, foster a sense of belonging, and increase student engagement, especially in schools that have been historically under-resourced. The program partners with Title I elementary and middle schools to provide high-quality and integrated arts education resources. Turnaround Arts collaborates with educators, artists, and administrators to fuel whole-school transformation in communities working to solve deep racial and economic inequities. The program currently works in 57 schools across the country, in 29 districts and 9 states. These young performers come from around our sites in the Bay Area, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Broward County, FL; Providence, RI; Bridgeport, CT; Milwaukee, WI; Minneapolis, MN; Bronx, NY; Richmond, VA, (TBC).
