45. Jazz Bass 'Walking in Twos' - Autumn Leaves (5ths & 3rds Mixed + 4 Arpeggio Notes)

WALKING IN TWOS + APPROACH NOTES:

The following series of videos utilise the skills developed in 'Jazz Walking Bass' videos 1-35. Please ensure you have a strong understanding of the Scale, Arpeggio, Complex & Simple Chromatic concepts within them before continuing. 'Walking In Twos' follows the same principle of outlining the harmony of a chord sequence with a steady pulse as 'Walking In Fours', but rather than four beats per bar, there are only two.

The video exercises/examples are based upon the A-Section of the Jazz Standard - Autumn Leaves. Please ensure you can confidently complete the exercises with the full chord sequence, before moving onto the next video lesson.

This exercise contains a combination of both 'Walking In Twos' & 'Walking In 4s' - these can be Scale, Arpeggio or Chromatic Notes. In the real world, this idea can be used as little or often as you like.

It is important to recognise that this method is not the only way to produce Walking Bass Lines. This method helps you to understand harmony and quickly generate ideas when improvising. You can use this method in conjunction with others to enhance your results. As this method is formulaic, it is important to practice the Bass Lines in context. You need to hear the chords against the Bass Lines that you are performing, to assess their compatibility. Not every example will sound pleasing to the ear.
