Number One – “The A-10 Thunderbolt II”
The A-10 Thunderbolt II, lovingly called the A-10 ‘Warthog’, mainly due to its aggressive look - and frequently painted with teeth on the nose cone, is the ‘flying gun’ and the Tank buster of U.S. Air Force. Primarily, the A-10 Warthog is a low-altitude close air support aircraft. The mission of the aircraft is ground support against tanks, reinforcements, and installations. The A-10 has probably the best GAU-8 Avenger 30mm submachine gun installed on the nose. It is highly suitable for operations from forward air bases. The jet has a long range of about 800 miles, high strength, and can stroll in the battlefield. The adjustability at low speed and low altitude (below 1000ft) enables accurate and effective aiming. It flies so low, I was able to get this shot! Not really, but you get the point! The A-10 is a highly survivable and multipurpose aircraft.
