Today we are going to learn how to play five different jazz licks. These were inspired by the listening I have been doing lately off all these jazz piano legends from New Orleans and the ones that made their bones their. Jellyroll, Longhair, Fats, Dr. John just to name a few and boy did they have some chops. Before that though I heard a quote from Victor Wooten, a tremendous bass player who said "there are no bad notes, just bad contexts" so we are going to play in the key of C but we will incorporate every single note from the chromatic scale in these 5 licks I believe, so you can see that you shouldn't be scared to experiment with notes outside the scale, add passing tones, have fun and see what sounds good to you! If it sounds good to you there is at least one other person on earth that will enjoy it as well.
