People are often confused about why I play some notes that normally use 1&2 with only my 3rd valve. It can be for intonation, technique, or smooth tone. This video shows you many examples from the standard Arban book that should have helped players to know about this, but I'm not sure it is in all editions. For this demo the background track (which matches the first snippet of music you see) is from my new, unaccompanied arrangement of "Old Man River."
