In our thirty-second AME Podcast, we continue our quest to serve artistic excellence through a conversation with Jim Seidel, retired music educator, trumpeter, conductor, and Director Emeritus of the Ringgold Band. Jim shared many great experiences of music making including some lessons that did not sink in until he needed it. Being exposed to Big Band early in his life, Jim’s dad planted a seed that has grown to his wealth of music education. Music felt right all the time for Jim and it is an inspiration to hear he is still performing after being in the Ringgold Band of Reading, PA for over fifty years in which he was the band director for 38 of those years. Jim learned from those experiences, took the time to interrupt the musical notes on the page differently than others, and made sure he was a prepared music educator because he wanted to provide a great experience for others and did not want to waste anybody’s time. It is about bringing a band to focus so you can make music together and connect with all kinds of people. Music is a part of Jim because of the little lessons that has stuck to his memories during his music making profession and now in his retired life.
