In 9th grade, our algebra teacher went on maternity leave, and we got a substitute who turned out to be a nightmare. Instead of teaching all 28 students, she hyperfocused on just four, leaving the rest of us to descend into chaos. The class became a wild, loud mess, and it wasn’t long before the vice principal walked in, furious at the state of our class. He demanded she leave and stayed with us the rest of the period. That substitute never returned, and we went through several others until our regular teacher came back, only to find out we had learned nothing. She was devastated, even crying at her desk.
