Hubert Eaves IV, known for his incredible work on the Erykah Badu album "Live", was only 21 years old when he played this incredibly tight and funky slap bassline on Jocelyn Brown's banger of a tune called "Ego Maniac."

The thing that continues to blow me away about Hue's playing is how short he can make his notes and keep them in the pocket. When I asked him about it he said that it comes from also being a drummer. To me the shorter the note, the more precise you have to be, and when you listen to Hue's basslines, the notes are always dead on, right in the pocket.

I'm proud to call HEIV my friend and when I reached out to him, he was kind enough to film a video telling the story of the bass he used on this track. You can check it out at the end of the playthrough.
