Meaning:
The composer admonishes that any amount of learning would not help one to get detached from the earthly bondage. Learning would not purify the thoughts either. Only pure devotion to the lord and meditating upon him always would detach one from the perennial birth and death cycle.

It is possible to swim ashore the ocean of multiple births.

In the sacred city of Thenpuliyur (Chidambaram) if you worship the golden feet of lord Shiva and identify with the lord, it is possible to cross the ocean of multiple births.

With abundant learning the disease of desire will not depart. Purity of thoughts may not be attained either. With abundant devotion to the lord singing the praise of the lord of the golden hall who has been hailed by Balakrishnan (the composer) it is possible to swim ashore the ocean of repeat births.
