Mike’s rant is lit. The farmer carry is a super simple, functional movement that humans have done for thousands of years. Carrying heavy objects will not only make you look like a badass, but it strengthens your core, shoulders, grip, hips, and feet. According to some famous PT people, we should be able to carry 75% of our bodyweight in EACH HAND for 2 minutes straight. I haven’t attempted this, but if you do, record it and send it to us… that’s badass. If you are 225lbs(or heavier) like me, it sounds a brutal.
Carrying objects in one hand or both hands will generally force you to stand upright. If you find that you have rounded posture, then carrying two moderately-heavy to heavy dumbbells in each hand will force you to stand upright. When you start to get fatigued, you will start to collapse again, so make sure to STOP doing carries when you feel that you are unable to keep yourself upright.
So, if you aren’t lazy like Mike, start incorporating carries (one weight or two) into your workouts. The are simple, can be made very fun if you create obstacles, and will produce amazing results.
