Here we have a video test of a new set mockup/maquette for a low-budget Christian kids' TV video production. Using a multiplane technique such as that used in traditional animation we are able to achieve a sense of depth in the set while only actually using one-dimensional images, cut-out. I think this is how to go about making a very high quality children's TV show on a very low budget. Watch this space, as we intend to go into production in the new year.

While we are working with very limited budgets, taking inspiration from traditional forms of cartoon animation offers us a very cost-effective way of creating bright, engaging and dynamic environments at a very low cost. Slight camera pan and zoom will be used frequently to reinforce the sense of a fully 3d environment, a static camera would not fully utilise the technique although some value would remain with zoom and clever use of depth of field.
