This service is patterned after that of King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England. It is similar to the Office of Vespers with hymns and carols used in place of psalms and canticles. The ceremony was devised by the Very Reverend E.M. Milner-White, a former Dean of King’s College. Using a service instituted by Archbishop Benson of Truro Cathedral as a model, service elements are drawn from ancient sources. Through the message of the biblical scriptures and verses of the carols and anthems, we are given a beautiful perspective to the meaning of the Christmas season.
