In this Easy guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by the Commodores, that was expertly covered by Faith No More in its entirety.

I am using the tuning of Eb standard in order to make it easier to recreate the piano chords of the original key of Ab major. That tuning is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.

The piano voicings that are used by the Commodores are slightly different than the ones that Faith No More ended up using in their extremely popular cover version. I will talk about those differences but spend more time on the Commodores harmony since that has a slightly richer sound.

There is also a great solo originally written and played by Thomas McClary. The solo is so good that when Faith No More did their cover, guitarist Jim Martin played pretty much the exact same solo, almost note-for-note, albeit in a different position.

I will teach you McClary's original solo as he played it, then demonstrate the difference between his and Jim Martin's versions by doing a quick performance of Martin's version of the solo for completeness sake. But a majority of the time will be spent on the original solo as performed by Thomas McClary.
