Here's a cool and easy bluegrass guitar lick over the D chord that you can use to level up your lead guitar improvising. This guitar riff is 4 measures long. It works best for playing lead guitar over the D chord when you're soloing in the key of D. Sometimes I also like to use it as a fill riff... when you have 4 measures of D chord rhythm, instead of playing rhythm, try playing this 4 measure riff instead ????
