I have always been a massive fan of The Band initially from their time with Bob Dylan, but more so later when I discovered their own music.
Whenever I would get asked what my dream band was in interviews I would always say a trio with Pat Metheny and Levon Helm. I would have wanted Levon to sing a whole bunch too. He's one of the most underrated musicians in history, and the fact I never got to play with him still bums me out as that was such a massive dream right from the start.
Cutting this track gave me the perfect opportunity to bring out the old Goya Panther II. It's weird, quirky, and has that old 60's sound to my ear.
I used LALAL.ai to take out the original bass and everything you hear is my own playing.
Signal chain on this one was straight from the Ampeg Venture V3 head into the desk. I used a tiny bit of compression on the bass in post before I bounced it down.
For breakdowns on all these songs, and a deeper look into my transcription process both with bass lines and melodies, check out my "Transcription Vault" course here: https://janekgwizdala.com/bass-courses
