Dekh Bhai . Martand Badoni
Chasing Folk Sounds, Vol I
Shoot Location: Nald village, Uttarkashi, Garhwal
Short story of this track:
An impromptu tour earlier this year, guided by a sense of an inner compass (and not an itinerary) led to the making of this song. The route: Rishikesh, Banaras, Bengal. By the time I returned home, I had a new sound in my hand - this Dotara, and it made a song sprout in my heart - 'Dekh Bhai'.
Once I knew I wanted to share this song with the world, I headed to Asli Studios in Dehradun, where Amogh helped me with recording it on some beautiful vintage mics.
Then, I wanted a video for it but I didn't know who to turn to. Fate conspired to make Pulkit Tomar (who runs Creating Tales, a filmmaking team) reach out to me for something. Next thing I know, he was writing a script around this song, and we shot it in the Village near my parents' house in Uttarkashi.
I'm glad that the kids I have taught music to feature in this video. Earlier I was shy to play music in the village, but this shoot had me singing my song in the village for a whole two days. You can't stop the smoke coming out of a fire, I guess!
