Biography :
Delkash was born in Babol, and was the daughter of a cotton trader who had nine other children. She came to Tehran to study (where she stayed until her death in 2004), but she was discovered soon and was introduced to the music masters of the time, Ruhollah Khaleghi and Abdolali Vaziri. She was named Delkash by Khaleghi.

Delkash started public singing in 1943 and was employed in Radio Iran in 1945, only five years after the establishment of the program. There, she worked with the composer Mehdi Khaledi for seven years, until 1952. The best of her songs were written by Rahim Moeini Kermanshahi, Iranian lyricist, and Ali Tajvidi, Iranian composer, from 1954 until 1969. Besides Persian, Delkash sang several songs, such as Kija and Banu, in her native Mazandarani language.

She also worked as a songwriter under the pen name of Niloofar (Persian: نیلوفر) and played in a few Iranian movies, including Sharmsaar, Maadar, Farda Roushan Ast, Afsoungar, and Dasiseh. She worked with singer and electric guitar musician Vigen Derderian Sultan of Jazz. Their duet "Delam Mikhast" can be heard on YouTube. Delkash died in September 2004, at the age of 79, in Tehran and was buried in Emamzadeh Taher, a popular graveyard for the artists located in Karaj.

دلکش در بابل به دنیا آمد و دختر یک تاجر پنبه بود که 9 فرزند دیگر داشت. او برای تحصیل به تهران آمد (تا زمان مرگش در سال 1383 در آنجا ماند)، اما خیلی زود کشف شد و به استادان موسیقی آن زمان روح‌الله خالقی و عبدالعلی وزیری معرفی شد. خالقی او را دلکش نامید.

دلکش از سال ۱۳۳۲ خوانندگی عمومی را آغاز کرد و تنها پنج سال پس از تأسیس این برنامه در سال ۱۳۲۴ در رادیو ایران استخدام شد. او در آنجا به مدت هفت سال تا سال 52 با مهدی خالدی آهنگساز کار کرد. بهترین ترانه های او توسط رحیم معینی کرمانشاهی، غزلسرای ایرانی و علی تجویدی، آهنگساز ایرانی، از سال 1333 تا 1348 سروده شد. دلکش علاوه بر فارسی، چندین ترانه خواند. مانند کیجا و بانو به زبان مادری خود مازندرانی.

او همچنین به عنوان ترانه سرا با نام مستعار نیلوفر (فارسی: نیلوفر) فعالیت کرد و در چند فیلم ایرانی از جمله شرمسار، مادر، فردا روشن است، افسونگر و داسیسه بازی کرد. او با خواننده و نوازنده گیتار الکتریک ویگن دردریان سلطان جاز کار کرد. دونوازی "دلم میخواست" آنها در یوتیوب شنیده می شود. دلکش در شهریور 1383 در سن 79 سالگی در تهران درگذشت و در امامزاده طاهر، قبرستان محبوب هنرمندان واقع در کرج به خاک سپرده شد.
