Displacing The Backbeat | Live Drum Lessons

In this weeks live drum lesson we're going to displace the backbeat. Displacing the backbeat sounds more difficult than it actually is. I will show you a basic drum beat and then show you a simple displacement of the backbeat on beat 2. First we'll shift it forward on the music staff to the "e" of 2. And with that I'll show you how to add some bass drum patterns around the idea using rock drum beats that you already know how to play. Then from there we'll displace the backbeat to the "a" of 1. And again I'll show you a similar process of adding bass drum beats around the idea. And in the final exercise of this drum lesson I'll displace both the 2 and 4 backbeats to give you an idea of the possibilities of this drumming concepts.
And in this drum lesson you'll learn how the different displacements affect the feel of the beat depending on if you shift the beat forward or backward in relation to the other backbeat.
