how is “Mr Brightside” connected to Blondie and Placebo? ????‍♀️ we hear the same 2 note hook (“Jealousy”, “….to the sea” etc.) in the same place - the very start of the choruses of both Blondie’s “Dreaming” AND Placebo’s “Special K.” But guess what? Nobody can own those two notes, whose usage is so frequent - and predictable in its usage - that musicologists have a name for it: the ti that all but requires a resolution on the “do” is known as a “tendency tone.” Nobody can own this, its simply a common building block of music. So, go write your own damn song using it (just be sure to change the lyrics…and MAYBE don’t also start your chorus with it!) ???? on the new One Song we dig DEEP into the stems & stories behind The Killers 2004 smash “Mr Brightside”
