This is my student Westin. I was unable to do a Big Band rehearsal so he covered for me. On first Trumpet is Walt Johnson (Sinatra, Elvis, Louie Bellson). Teaching students to sight read drum charts is a very useful skill. Not only Does it give school age musicians a great chance for music scholarship or awards ( I teach 2022 California’s All State middle school Big Band drummer) but it also creates playing opportunities you wouldn’t normally receive. It also quickly networks you into large groups of musicians who are also looking to play. Besides all that ... it’s so FUN. I am teaching drum chart reading online now.
