Hello gang,
With the format "Solo for Kids" I would like to give you an insight into my pedagogical work. At the same time, I want to share a few thoughts with you on the subject of instrumental lessons.
In my daily work with children, I notice that the concept of grooves and fills - as essential and great as it is - often requires too much ability and knowledge.
Many beginners have not yet developed a feel for bars, phrases or song parts; pulse and time are not only unfamiliar terms, they are literally incomprehensible.
An alternative would therefore be to start with purely motor or coordinative exercises.
When I was starting out, I used to play eight right/eight left on the snare for hours on end, making strange sounds like 1-ne-an-te, 2-e-an-te and thus demonstrating a certain perseverance early on...????
As you can see, it's worth questioning the whole thing thoroughly...
The best way to start drumming is to focus on playing melodies first.
With catchy, linear and repetitive patterns, your pupils can literally explore their instrument beat by beat and develop their limbs, ear and feel in equal measure.
You can find an example of such a task in this "Solo for kids".
You're thinking: Wow, how cool is that - are there any more? ???? Then you should subscribe to this channel and definitely take a look at the City Drumming books... ????
With best regards
Thorsten
