Pentatonic licks are where it’s at. As the old saying goes, “they have just enough notes to sound right, but not enough to get you in trouble.” This lesson has all its focus going into one of the most important Pentatonic lick techniques there is.

When it comes to how the world’s most famous guitar players plan scales to create licks, there’s one easy trick that they all like to use.

This simple trick not only helps guitar licks sound better, but it also has the added benefit of making guitar licks easier to play. In this lesson, I’m going to show you exactly how this technique works, how it sounds when its played, and how you can use it to create your own original licks.

We’ll start by covering exactly how to use an interval that’s pretty much exclusive to stringed instruments called the “unison.” I’ve organized the unison into two highly popular guitar licks that are both based upon notes found in the “A” Minor Pentatonic Scale.

The lesson’s Pentatonic example licks work in a way that will help stretch the notes along the neck by applying a unison technique off of the scales root note and its “Minor 3rd.” We’ll learn two guitar licks and how the unison note in each lick will play an important role in “making these licks” sound great along with helping them be performed more easily on the guitar.
