Joseph Walston is a Botany Ph.D. student currently researching the carnivorous pitcher plants Heliamphora. This video, however, is about his work with the federally endangered and critically imperiled mountain pitcher plant *Sarracenia jonesii*. He researched how soil nutrients, or lack thereof, affected which leaves the plant grew, how much it flowered, as well as analyzed all available historical data for this specific population. With this research, he hopes to help the public understand that the soils that carnivorous plants inhabit are likely high in nutrient content but low in plant-available nutrients. Follow him on Instagram @CocoaGeekPlants for both biological lessons and pictures of his own plants. He can be contacted by email at jwalston@wisc.edu.
