Hi everyone, here's the introduction to the trumpet and a quick little practice and warm-up tool, that goes a looong way. (pun intended).

If you just started your trumpet journey you're in the right place. Just don't rush through it, take your time to practice daily, you'll see the progress and you're going to love it. Trumpet is one of the most expressive, responsive, addictive and rewarding instruments of all.

We are going to practice long tones on the C major scale.

Two things to be aware of:

First one - you probably know by now, that trumpet is a B-flat transposing instrument, meaning: every note on our trumpet is going to sound whole step lower than on a piano, guitar or any other non-transposing instrument. So – our trumpet playing C sounds like B-flat on a piano.

Second thing – make sure the main tuning slide is about half an inch or 1 cm out.

First, listen to the first measure (you can count to four) and the repeat what you hear – play precisely full measure. You can count to four in your head.

Next time, try this exercise with crescendo and decrescendo - play the tone from quiet to loud, and from loud to quiet.

Practice daily and remember: enjoy!
