I meet singers who tell me, “I need help with breathing.” or “I run out of air while I’m singing”.
The first thing I ask is, “Did you mark your breaths in the song?” And the answer is usually “No”.
This is the first step to breath management - making decisions and marking the breaths ahead of time.
You can always change your mind and create a new plan.
Then, you will be rehearsing the breathing patterns as part of the song - really important when you first start learning a song because it will go into muscle memory.
This way you won’t “run out of air” anymore.
