FLORIAN BABȚAN-VARGA (ROMANIA)
Florian Babțan-Varga started studying classical guitar at the age of 13 at the Sigismund Toduță
College of Music in Cluj-Napoca. He attended master classes held by Judicaël Perroy, Gabriel
Bianco, Costas Cotsiolis, Giampaolo Bandini, András Csáki, Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Alexis
Muzurakis, Susana Prieto and many other world-renowned teachers and performers. He is a
graduate of the Gheorghe Dima National Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca in the class of
professors István Ferenc Beke and Constantin Andrei, and is currently a doctoral student at the
same institution, researching the contemporary guitar music of European composers. Florian
teaches classical guitar at the Sigismund Toduță College of Music in Cluj-Napoca, and his
students have won prizes at various national and international guitar competitions. Together
with the Harmonia Cordis Association he organizes the Harmonia Cordis International Guitar
Festival in Târgu Mureș, the Novum Generatio International Guitar Festival in Cluj-Napoca and
the Harmonia Cordis International Guitar Festival in Odorheiu Secuiesc. Besides the guitar, he
also plays other plucked string instruments such as mandolin, bouzouki, acoustic and electric
guitar, and his services are often requested by the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca,
the Hungarian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca and the Transylvania State Philharmonic. Florian
plays a concert guitar made by Spanish luthier Eduardo Alférez and uses AER amplifiers. Since
2024 he is an official D’Addario Artist.
