Sound like Queens Of The Stone Age using these simple steps ☝️

Step 1: The Kit

Dave Grohl uses:

24" Kick
14" Snare
14" Rack Tom
18" Floor Tom
We didn't have these exact sizes available, so here's what we're using:

22" Kick
14" Snare
14" Floor Tom as a Rack Tom
16" Floor Tom
Step 2: The Tunings

"Song For The Dead" features the following tunings:

Kick: C
Snare: A#
Rack Tom: E
Floor Tom: C
Step 3: Dampening

The notes are quite short on the record, possibly due to factors like skin age and the specific tuning method used. To replicate the record's note lengths as closely as possible, we've added some moon gel to our setup.

Step 4: The Room

The room plays a huge role in shaping the drum sound of this record. Initially, we set up the kit in the large live room at Panic Button Studios, but it wasn't quite capturing the essence of the record. So, we ended up moving the entire drum kit into the booth, which sounded a lot closer to what we were aiming for.
