On February 11, 2024, the world premiere of The Harriet Tubman Oratorio was performed by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and a 150 voice choir and presented by The National Civil Rights Museum. The oratorio is a soulful and powerful body of work that brings Harriet Tubman's story to life through music and spoken word. The music is a unique blend of gospel, blues and jazz with a classical music framework. The oratorio uses two narrators to help tell the story. One narrator is a spoken artist who embodies the spirit of Harriet and evokes quotations attributed to Harriet. The other narrator shares the history and the background of Harriet Tubman's story setting the stage for Harriet's work.
