HEJ TOMTEGUBBAR COME ALONG
WE WILL SING A SONG AND BE JOLLY
HEJ TOMTEGUBBAR COME ALONG
WE WILL SING A SONG AND BE JOLLY
A LITTLE FUN, A LITTLE JOY
A GIFT FOR EACH LITTLE GIRL AND BOY
This is a fun Scandinavian children’s dance that goes with a Swedish song, “Hej, Tomtegubbar”. A nisse is a mythological creature associated with the Winter Solstice and the Christmas season. Dancers stand in circles of 7-10 individuals with a leader in the middle. During measures 1-8 the leader walks around the inside and outside of the circle in a random pathway. At measure 9 the leader faces someone and bows. At measure 10 the new person bows back. The leader bows again on measure 11. The new person bows again on measure 12. All clap on the “Hey” as the leader turns to face the opposite direction. The new person now follows the leader as the song begins again. On the next clap both the leader and new person turn to face the opposite direction. Now, there is a new leader. Repeat and continue until all dancers have been added.
*The original version of this dance has dancers moving with one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them.*
