Double stops, also known as harmonic intervals, involve playing two notes at the same time. They can be simple, such as playing two open strings together, or extremely challenging, like fingered octaves or large stretches between notes. Mastering double stops strengthens left-hand coordination, bow control, and overall intonation.

How Double Stops Are Named
The name of a double stop comes from the distance between the lower and higher note:
- A to C is a third (A B C = 3 notes)
- D to B is a sixth (D E F G A B = 6 notes)
- D to D is an octave (D E F G A B C D)
