Tom Petty rejected his guitarist MIKE CAMPBELL'S song the Boys of Summer because it didn't fit the theme of the album he was doing so Mike took it to Don Henley formerly of the Eagles, a rival of the band. Don turned it into a smash that was heard all over radio for years.
