IGNITE Your Day #175: Shouting The Walls Down
Today's Message: Shouting Walls Down—The Jericho Principle of Worship

What can we learn from the fall of Jericho? How did worship play a role in bringing down its mighty walls?

Our guiding scripture is Joshua 6:5:

"It shall come to pass when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up, every man straight before him."

This passage recounts a remarkable victory—the fall of Jericho, the first stronghold in the conquest of Canaan. However, the method of this victory was unlike any military strategy. Instead of attacking with weapons, the Israelites obeyed God's command to march, blow trumpets, and shout in faith. This unconventional approach teaches us powerful lessons about worship.

The Jericho Principle of Worship

Worship Requires ObedienceIn Joshua 6:2-5, God gave specific instructions:

March around the city once a day for six days.

On the seventh day, march seven times.

Blow the trumpets.

When the priests sound the trumpets, shout loudly.

This method defied human logic, yet the Israelites obeyed. Worship that leads to victory must be rooted in obedience, even when it seems unreasonable.

Worship Is a Silent Trust Before the BreakthroughIn Joshua 6:10, the Israelites were commanded to remain silent as they marched.

No talking.

No questioning God’s plan.

Just silent trust.

This was a test of faith. Silence can be difficult, especially when circumstances seem uncertain. But silent trust is a powerful expression of faith—acknowledging that God is in control even when we do not understand His plan.

Worship Leads to VictoryThe walls of Jericho fell not by military might but by faith-filled obedience, persistent praise, and trust in God. Many of us face our own "walls"—walls of fear, doubt, sin, and obstacles that seem insurmountable. But just as Jericho's walls crumbled through worship, our strongholds can be demolished when we embrace the principles of worship:

Faith-filled obedience

Persistent praise

Unwavering trust in God

Conclusion

The story of Jericho teaches us that victory comes through worship. It is not about our strength but about our faith in God's power. Whatever walls stand before you today, let your worship be your weapon. Trust, obey, and praise Him—and watch as He brings the walls down.
