I have no problem spending time working on independence exercises as long as I know they are getting me closer to my long term goal of being musical and for lack of a better phrase, sounding good on the drums. This one little exercise gives you plenty to work on and in the end you'll have a very musical fusion phrase that goes over the barline. Enjoy the process, be patient with yourself, and remember to tweak it just enough to make it your own - Mike J
