This piece is a solo bass composition that explores the use of the chordal fingerstyle technique. This technique requires the player to play the strings using the thumb and fingers of the picking hand in a similar manner to the way acoustic guitarists often play. Although there is limited call for this technique on bass, it is a useful way to explore chords and other harmonic ideas on the instrument.

I performed the line using a Mayones Viking bass strung with Rotosound strings, gauges .040, .060, .080, .100. I favoured the bridge pickup slightly and boosted the treble a little. I also added some reverb digitally. The bass was recorded via a SansAmp Bass Driver DI.
