Compared to the great nineteenth-century theatrical music, this selection represents a parallel dimension, very lively and varied, which constituted the cultural and musical substratum of the Italian nineteenth-century salons: the private completion of what happened in the great public theatrical events.
The singular instrumental ensemble represented by the ensemble of the period piano and the harmonium, is able to re-propose a variety of expressive possibilities of very rare listening, and also brings to light those composers hitherto unknown - but not so 'minor' - whose notes represented the most intimate and widespread alter ego of the great melodramatic production of the nineteenth century.
The performance is entrusted to two refined specialists of the instruments in question: Andrea Toschi at the harmonium and Carlo Mazzoli at the historical piano.
