I unfortunately wrote off Limp Bizkit when I was younger - there was always something with Fred Durst in the news, or something controversial with the band itself, and I guess I didn’t give them a chance. I’ve been guided back into the nu metal scene by everyone’s requests, and I’m seeing these bands through a much different lens nowadays. They all have such an edgy, interesting take on melody, production, and each bassist really contributes a unique element to the music. Sam Rivers really drives “Re-Arranged” and the song’s staple groove almost “leads” the entire song’s direction as it unfolds. I talk about how the bass line plays off of a modal scale (instead of using the minor sixth), and how it’s almost the melodic “focal” point that the vocal melody leans on. I discuss the “3D” production, the perfectly-placed drum & bass breakdowns, why I love the vocal melody so much, and more.
