Jaap Dekker (Doesburg, February 12, 1947 – Amstelveen, February 28, 2020) was a Dutch boogie woogie pianist, singer, harmonica player, accordionist and composer.
After his first music studies on accordion and organ, Dekker became a member of pop groups such as Les Copains, Moan and Long Tall Ernie and the Shakers. Around 1970 he played as an entertainment pianist in several bars, but then turned to boogie woogie. At the Loosdrecht Jazz Competition in 1971 he was named the best performer of the old style. He subsequently scored two gold records and one platinum (more than 100,000 copies) in that music style. He was also already writing music for films and documentaries. In the meantime, he took classical piano lessons for many years. At a later age, in 1987, he still went to the conservatory and completed his studies at "het Sweelinck" in Amsterdam.
Jaap Dekker married in 1987 after a long relationship with athlete and radio and TV presenter Olga Commandeur, with whom he had two children.
Jaap Dekker was an all-round jazz and boogie woogie pianist, with a basic classical education. In addition, Dekker was a talented composer and lyricist.
