Jewish Conservatives Episode No. 19--Queen Esther, The Badass Heroine of Purim

There is a running theme throughout the Bible of women acting as catalysts. It starts with Eve in the Garden of Eden, without whom literally nothing would happen, and continues throughout the Tanakh. Every so often, the badass women of the Bible emerge to either right wrongs or save the day.

This is no clearer than in the book of Esther where we meet one of the best badasses of the entire Bible, Esther/Hadassah. Esther goes from a completely passive character taking directions from her adopted father/cousin, Mordechai, to instantaneously creating a plan to save the Jews and ordering Mordechai around as if it's the most natural thing in the world.

Esther sacrifices herself (TWICE!) for the Jews and even when she could have kept her mouth shut, she goes out of her way to help her brethren. Beyond that, Esther rises to such prominence that the King seeks out HER advice when it comes to military matters.

From passive virgin to badass smiter of enemies, it is hard to find a better badass (man or woman) than Esther, the badass heroine of Purim (Part One in my series of "Badass Women of the Bible").
