Mr. Jimmy "Jim" Lamar Fraley Obituary
Jimmy Lamar Fraley was born in Bessemer City, NC and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, musician, and man of faith. He passed away on January 30, 2025, at the age of 68.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joan Smith Fraley; his three children, Pastor Jason Fraley (Angela), Pastor Josh Fraley (Maleah), and Jennifer Fraley Edenfield (Joseph); and his twelve cherished grandchildren: Josh (Chloe), Preston, Landon, and Emma (children of Jason and Angela). Hayden, Henry, Hudson, and Hadley (children of Josh and Maleah). Cameron, Chelsea, Courtney, and Caylee (children of Jennifer and Joe). He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon Hembree (Roger), Christy Bridges, and Janet Bradley (Tim), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Fraley and Frances Daphene Holbrook. Jim's family was his greatest joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
For 46 years, Jim shared a loving marriage with his wife, Joan, building a life centered on faith and family. A dedicated member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 45 years, he served as a deacon and proclaimed God’s truth until his final breath.
A gifted banjo player, Jim spent over 50 years sharing his musical talent on stage and mentoring young musicians, including his own family. He played with A Deeper Shade of Blue for more than 20 years, finishing his career doing what he loved most. Though he received many awards, he remained humble and valued the joy of music over recognition.
Jim’s influence extends beyond music. Whether fixing an engine or teaching his family how to turn a wrench, Jim took pride in sharing his mechanical knowledge. He passed down his love of hands-on craftsmanship to his sons and grandsons, teaching them lessons of patience and problem-solving.
Later in life, Jim developed Parkinson’s and kidney disease and underwent years of dialysis. Even in hardship, his faith never wavered. He formed deep friendships with his nurses, whose care and kindness created cherished lifelong memories.
Above all, Jim’s greatest joy was his family. He and Joan made Monroe, North Carolina, their home, raising three children, who all serve in ministry for the Lord. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Jim’s life was a testament to faith, love, and service. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched. Jim has finished his race, and we rejoice, knowing he is now at peace with his Savior, playing his banjo and singing in Heaven’s choir.
A celebration of his life will be held at Lee Park Church on Saturday, February 8th at 2:00 pm. A visitation will also be held at Lee Park from 6-8pm on Friday, February 7th.
Flower arrangements for Jim may be sent to Lee Park Church or to Holland Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Euto Baptist Church Missions. The donation address is 6019 Hwy 205, Marshville, NC 28103.
