http://www.vladtv.com - Battle MCs Jimz and ShowOff sat down with battle rap journalist Michael Hughes to share their views on the upcoming "Total Slaughter" event, specifically, the main matchup between Joe Budden and Hollow Da Don.
Jimz believes it's hugely important that Hollow take the win in this matchup, as he represents the battle rap culture vs. mainstream Hip-Hop, and Jimz feels that if he loses, many people from the mainstream will look down on battle rap and not take the sport seriously. ShowOff, while agreeing that he'd like Hollow to take it, says that the mainstream already respects the culture because artists like Diddy, Eminem and Joe Budden are paying attention and putting money into the culture.
ShowOff goes on to say he loves the competitive nature of battle rap because Hip-Hop was built on a competitive foundation, and mainstream Hip-Hop has a tendency to be more about the money than the competition and who is actually a better lyricist.
When asked if Joe Budden has what it takes to win, Jimz feels Budden will fair well but won't be used to another man in his face that up-close and personal, while ShowOff thinks Joe has enough experience with large crowds to handle the pressure.
